Traditional Liposuction

When many women and men in New Jersey and Philadelphia think of liposuction, they think of the traditional technique. Using this method, Dr. Sorokin manually moves the liposuction instrument (called a "cannula") back and forth underneath the skin to break up and remove unwanted fat deposits.

This technique originally was developed over 30 years ago and remains a popular choice in Philadelphia and New Jersey. Liposuction has been one of the top cosmetic surgery procedures in the United States for over a decade. Liposuction is an effective tool for body contouring, but it is not intended to be used as a weight loss method – Dr. Sorokin's patients choose the procedure to remove diet-resistant pockets of fat.

Request your consultation with board-certified New Jersey plastic surgeon Dr. Evan Sorokin to learn more about liposuction and find the option that's just right for you. Dr. Sorokin's body contouring options range from the most time-tested to the most advanced. His office is a SmartLipo™ training center and he is the first liposuction surgeon in Southern New Jersey to offer this innovative treatment.

Traditional Lipo – Still Amazing After All These Years

The traditional technique is also known as suction-assisted liposuction (SAL). After making tiny incisions near the treatment area, Dr. Sorokin inserts the cannula to break up and vacuum out subdermal fatty tissue. The proper amount of fat to be removed for each New Jersey liposuction patient is determined by massaging the skin and squeezing the tissue during the procedure. Once the fat has been removed, incisions are stitched closed and a compression dressing is applied to minimize swelling. Depending on the area treated and amount of fat removed, a patient may need to wear a support garment for several weeks to help protect and shape the treated area.

The Benefits of Traditional Liposuction in New Jersey

  • Reduce fat tissue in non-fibrous areas such as the abdomen, hips, and thighs
  • Create a more attractive look and increase comfort in clothing
